The myth that surrounds the whole carb thing is really confusing, or not!
Let’s begin with knowing that all food fits into 3 Categories: Protein, Fat or Carbohydrate (Carb’s). From here, it’s important to know these categories are referred to as the Major Food Groups. Minor food or nutrients are vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and plant foods.
So! Either a Major food is a protein or it’s a fat or it’s a carb. As with any good rule, there are always some exceptions. Oh, and don’t get to hung up with whether a food is a vegetable or a fruit i.e. tomato – actually considered a fruit, as are bell peppers.
I ask the question – is broccoli a protein, a fat or a carb? Is lettuce a protein, a fat or a carb? Is zucchini a protein, a fat or a carb? If you answered a carb to all three of these, you were right! Yeah. Without going into all the biochemistry at this point, if you get this, you should be able to understand that not all carbs are bad for you. In fact, without carbs in our diet, we wouldn’t function for very long, not healthily anyway.
The hope of this article is to have you start thinking differently about “Carbs” as a grouping of food that causes people to gain weight and be unhealthy. I propose to you now, try eating enough mixed lettuce greens to gain weight, you’ll most likely get sick of chewing and eating greens before you gain weight. Actually, all that chewing causes weight loss! Just saying.
